Stephen R. Covey once shared how ‘What you do has far greater impact than what you say.’ To tell someone you will open a door for them is meaningful yet to actually open a door for them is impactful. This understanding reframes the idea that we have the ability to make a difference in this world. We have the ability to change the lives of others and to make an impact. You may not ever know the full impact of what you achieve and what positive impact you have on others but just know that by taking action, you are creating ripples. The one door you opened may remind others of the good in the world; this one act may lead to them expressing love to all those they encounter that day which as a result leads to others being reminded thus creating a ripple effect of people prompted towards expressing love.
Mother Teresa built on this concept very well when she shared her thoughts on making an impact, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”
How do we make this impact though?
Lisa Gill simplified our journey towards answering this question when she shared how we shouldn’t wait until we have a , “purpose, the perfect vision or the perfect compass to really start making a change and making a positive impact.”
When reflecting on your current position on life, like many unique individuals, do you want to generate a meaningful, positive impact and leave behind a legacy for generations to come? Consider the fact that it's about the lasting impact you have on the people you share your life with.
I leave you with this reflective question… What action can you take now that will have a lasting impact on the people you share your life with?
